How Do I Make My Nails Stronger?

Do you have weak nails? Recently, I reached a point where I was stuck trying to research “how do I make my nails stronger?” My nails were brittle, they would break easily, and I’ll be honest: I wasn’t taking good care of them.
Now I know how to strengthen nails and how to make nails stronger naturally.
If you’re willing to put some effort into making your nails stronger, you’ll find that a little bit of care every day or two will do the trick.
Just do it carefully and taking care of your back while bending over, otherwise you can cause yourself a back pain.
How to Grow Strong Nails Naturally in 7 Easy Steps
First, before I go into the process that I followed when trying to learn how to make my nails stronger, I suggest you have a good pair of nail clippers. You need to cut your nails, especially if they’re brittle, or if the nail isn’t growing properly.
ClipperPro is the clipper that I decided on because it works so well.
Cut and contour your nails often, and you’ll find that if you follow these tips, they start to grow back stronger.
1. Minimize Water Exposure
If your nails are already weak and brittle, the last thing you’ll want to do is soak them in water. Going in the pool, washing dishes or taking a bath should be done with caution. I wear rubber gloves when washing the dishes – I can’t just let them pile up – and this has helped me a lot.
When you submerge your nails too often, there’s a risk that they’ll becoming too hydrated.
2. Drink More Water
Ironically, you do need to be hydrated to keep your nails from becoming hard and brittle. Lack of moisture can lead to nails that peel and break easily. One way to reduce the risk of nails hardening or becoming too brittle is to drink more water.
Water allows the nails to retain moisture, reduces peeling and breaking, and leads to overall healthier nails.
3. Invest in a Good Biotin Supplement
Biotin is one of the supplements that people benefit from the most because of dietary issues. People are eating less varieties of food, and B vitamins are some that people lack the most. If you’re lacking biotin, your nails will suffer.
Daily consumption is required because Vitamin B-7 and Vitamin H (biotin) aren’t stored in the body.
Taking a daily biotin supplement will improve the body’s nervous system function and also:
- Strengthen nails
- Strengthen hair
You can take a lot of different supplements for nail health, but this is one of the most important.
4. Pay Attention to Your Diet
Supplementation is great, but you don’t need a supplement if you want to grow your nails stronger. Diet plays a role in everything you do, and you should pay attention to the vitamins and minerals that your body is lacking.
You can take a test to see what your body is lacking, and then you’ll want to consume foods that have these vitamins and minerals in them naturally.
A few of the foods I recommend are:
- Eggs
- Sardines
- Legumes
These three foods are high in biotin and are a great addition to your nail health routine. If you really can’t eat these foods, you may be better off finding a high-end multivitamin that provides enough of the vitamins and minerals your body requires.
5. Avoid Harmful Chemicals and Products
If you’re learning how to get stronger nails, you’re doing it all wrong if you’re using harsh products on your nails. Whenever possible, you should avoid using:
- Acrylic nails
- Gel nails
When you use these products, and I know that they look really nice, you’re causing your nails to weaken and peel. Frequent peeling just causes the nail to continuously weaken and become brittle.
Nail polish removers are very toxic for your nails and contain acetone, which will weaken the nail.
If you’re going to use any of these harmful chemicals on your nails, try to look for alternatives first. Nontoxic alternatives are a good option and will cause less damage to the nail.
6. Keep Your Nails Shorter
If you’ve ever grown your nails out long, you know that they tend to get caught on things easily. When they get caught, they have a tendency to chip, snag and break. Of course, when this happens, you’re weakening the nail.
When nails are weak, they’ll take some time before they strengthen.
Keep your nails shorter and well contoured to ensure that they have the time to strengthen.
7. Moisturize Your Nails
Your nails should be moisturized. If you use a regular hand cream, you should also be using this lotion on your nails. Be sure to massage the cream into each nail. The goal is to keep the nail healthy and moisturized.
You’ll want to use lotion any time you normally lotion up your hands.
I use lotion twice per day: morning and night. Some people don’t do this and will actually lotion their hands every time they wash them. I don’t personally follow this practice, but if it’s something you want to do, give it a try.
Note: If you use a lot of hand sanitizer – everyone is these days – you’ll be drying out your nails drastically. Avoid getting the sanitizer on your nails, or they’ll become brittle and break easily.
If your nails aren’t clear and strong, you may have medical issues – seriously. When I was trying to figure out how to make my nails stronger and thicker, I remember looking up splintering. I have blood pressure problems, and I always measure my blood pressure using a fitness band to keep track of it.
What I found was that if your nails soften and sort of float above the nail bed, that’s a major problem.
This is called “clubbing,” and it’s a sign of heart abnormalities. If you have red lines under your nails, there’s a chance you’re dealing with cardiovascular disease.
Medical problems can present in your nails.
So, if you’re researching how to grow nails faster and stronger and nothing seems to work, you may want to go for a checkup.
