How to Cool Down a Room Fast

It can be impossible to get a good night’s sleep when it is hot, and instead, you find yourself tossing and turning in bed as the room almost seems to get hotter by the minute. Using AC may seem like the ideal solution, but keeping the AC on all night is not cheap, and not everyone has air conditioning at home.

The good news is that there are options! You can, for example, cover up your windows, invest in a ceiling fan, sleep closer to the floor or create a cross breeze, or you can check out the other tips in this article for how to cool down a room fast.

The best way to cool a small room or a big room depends on what you have available to you, and we have included useful tips to cool the room you sleep in without having to make a big financial investment.

Cooling a Room Without AC

When trying to figure out how to cool down a room fast, the first thing that comes to mind is probably turning on the AC. However, if this isn’t an option, there are a few creative alternatives you can turn to.

You can opt for purchasing a portable AC unit, such as the Blast Auxiliary or other products designed to give you AC without having to install it in your home, or you can try the following budget-friendly tips to cool the room.

Clever Use of Fans

Using a fan by your bed might seem like the obvious choice, but sometimes a regular fan will only move hot air around – circulating it, yet not cooling down the area at all. Try turning your fan away from you and facing an open window, as this will cause it to push the warm air out.

Sleep as Low as Possible

Heat rises, and a logical solution is that when your heat goes up, you go down. Move your mattress down on the floor, and if you normally sleep on the top floor of a two-story house, consider sleeping downstairs as the bottom floor is usually cooler than the top floor.

Using Ice

Don’t discard the fan just yet, even if you haven’t had much luck in the past! Set up your fan in the room, this time facing you, and place a pan full of ice cubes in front of it.

The pan should be shallow with as much ice as you can fit into it, and the idea is for the fan to blow air past the ice and onto you, which will have an instant cooling effect.

Cross-Breeze

Have you ever wondered how to keep rooms cool during summer naturally? Creating a cross-breeze may be the answer. To successfully create a cross-breeze in your room, you need at least two fans and a window.

Set up the fans so that one fan passes cool outside air to the next fan and then to you, as this creates a steady cooling breeze.

No Electronics

How to cool down a room fast isn’t rocket science, and one thing that people tend to forget is that electronics generate heat. Perhaps you are accustomed to leaving your TV on, your laptop connected, or something else, and this could be warming up your room without you realizing it!

Unplug all electronics before going to bed and experience the difference!

Avoid Using the Oven

Making lasagna and other oven-baked dinners is, of course, great, but you might want to avoid it on the hottest days of the month. Using the oven heats up your kitchen, and that hot air will then travel throughout your house and into the room where you sleep. When trying to cool down a room without AC, this is an important step.

Prevention

Don’t forget to try and prevent your room from becoming a sauna, and that way you won’t have to worry about how to cool down a room fast. Close the blinds and leave them closed throughout the day, to stop sunlight from coming in and warming up the room.

Taking Advantage of the Wind

It is easier to cool down a room on a windy day, but if the air coming through your window isn’t cool enough – hang a wet sheet in front of it! Air will pass through the wet sheet and come out significantly cooler on the other side, which will bring down the temperature in your bedroom.

Ice Pack ; Frozen Water Bottles

Get an ice pack or fill up a bottle with water and freeze it overnight. Then, place the frozen item at the bottom of your bed under the sheets, and let it cool down your body with minimal effort. Your room may not be as cool as you would have liked, but you will be. You can also make your own DIY ice pack.

Closing Doors

Rule number one when it comes to how to cool down a room fast is to make sure that cool air stays in the room! Close all other doors in the house and close your room door as well, while working to cool it down, as it will be harder to cool down a whole house compared to just one room.

Conclusion

All these tips will help cool down a room fast, but your best strategy is to work on cooling down your sleeping area throughout the day.

If you start trying to cool it down at the moment when you are about to go to bed, then you will be able to make a little difference, but by keeping blinds closed throughout the day – you will be off to a head start.

Learning how to cool down a room fast can be what gets you enough sleep during the summer months, and keeps you focused enough to perform well at work and in your everyday life.

Everyone needs sleep, as sleep deprivation could lead to health issues, and not having AC shouldn’t be a deciding factor in whether or not you get the rest you need.
