29 Leading Back Pain Causes That Can Leave You Hunched Over in Pain

Aches and pains are never fun, but back pain can be debilitating. Back pain causes vary, from slight muscle injuries to slipped discs and damage in the vertebrae. Some pain can be sudden and happen virtually out of nowhere, while other pain can be chronic.

Back pain can happen in two key areas, including:

  1. Lower back
  2. Upper back

You’ll also find that some people have mid back pain, but this is often radiating pain that comes from one of the two other areas discussed previously.

What Can Cause Lower Back Pain?

There are multiple different types of pain. Some people may have mild discomfort, while others may have severe back pain. The difference in these pains are usually the cause.

What can cause back pain?

Severe Back Pain Causes

  1. Spinal fractures
  2. Cancer of the spine
  3. Muscle spasms
  4. Sciatica
  5. Herniated discs
  6. Ruptured discs
  7. Ligament or muscle tears or strains
  8. Spinal curvatures
  9. Spinal stenosis
  10. Compression fractures

Regular Lower Back Pain Causes

  1. Kidney infection
  2. Pregnancy
  3. Kidney stones
  4. Arthritis
  5. Infection of the spine

There are multiple causes of back pain in females that males don’t experience:

  1. Ovarian cancer
  2. Ovarian cysts
  3. Uterine fibroids
  4. Endometriosis

You can simply move in the wrong direction or pick up an item improperly and hurt your back. It’s not uncommon for people to have back pain, as over 80% of adults will suffer from some form of back pain in their lives. You can even get back pain from simply going to grab a battery charging cord.

Common Middle and Upper Back Pain Causes

Middle and upper back pain are often combined together when you look up back pain causes. You can experience this pain anywhere from the base of your neck to about the bottom of your ribs.

Covering a large area of your back, this area of the spine, called the thoracic spine, consists of the following:

  • Muscles and ligaments
  • Discs
  • 12 vertebras

If you have mild pain, something along the lines of RenuBack Relief may work well for you. But it’s often important to find the root cause of the problem because it could be anything from a simple muscle strain or ligament issue to something more serious.

And the most common causes of middle and upper back pain include:

  1. Vertebrae fractures
  2. Muscle stiffness
  3. Muscle tightness
  4. Osteoarthritis
  5. Myofascial pain
  6. Nerve pressure
  7. Pinched nerve
  8. Poor posture
  9. Muscle overuse
  10. Stress

A lot of patients walk into clinics asking, “Can stress cause back pain?” And the answer is a resounding yes. Stress can manifest in multiple ways, and one of the most common responses is muscle tightness, which will inevitably lead to back pain.

As you can see, there are a lot of different causes for back pain. What you do to correct the issue is what matters most. Some people will have to undergo surgery due to curvatures or issues with their spinal cord or nerves, but most people are able to correct their back issues by making key changes in the way that they sit or pick up items.

There are a lot of reviews for products that may be able to help you reduce your back pain. And there are a lot of natural ways that you can reduce the pain that you’re feeling.

Natural Ways to Fight Back Against Common Back Pain Causes

A lot of people that suffer from back pain will try natural remedies to relieve their pain. Since back pain is so common, it’s often associated with pill dependency because people will use pain pills to alleviate their pain. You don’t want to do this if you don’t have to.

If you’re having back pain, you may want to try one of the following methods to relieve your pain naturally:

Anti-inflammatory foods and drinks

A lot of natural remedies will include drinking turmeric milk, ginger green tea and other forms of anti-inflammatory foods. These different types of foods and drinks have anti-cancer agents, and they can also help with arthritis-related issues. If your inflammation is causing or increasing your back pain, these are great options for you.

Correct your posture

Posture plays an important role in your back health. When you’re hunched over, your spine joints and muscles can eventually ache. If your back pain caused by bad posture, you want to consider the following:

  • Avoid sitting for long periods of time. Use a standing desk if you’re stuck in an office, or make sure to get up every 30 minutes or so for a short walk.
  • Make sure that you pay attention to your posture. Your neck, back and shoulders should be in proper alignment to reduce stress on your spine. If your posture is bad, it will only increase the back pain that you’re experiencing.

Stretch out your back

Yoga and any form of stretching can be beneficial if it’s light and gentle. When you stretch, you’ll be elongating both your soft tissue and joints. The increase in blood flow, as a result of stretching, will force more nutrients into your spine and back to speed up the healing process.

The ideal time to stretch is first thing in the morning to alleviate pain for the rest of the day.

Soak in warm water

A warm bath, or a dip in the hot tub, can help alleviate your back pain. The warm water will help reduce inflammation, can relax tight muscles and relieve nerve-related pain. Hydrotherapy is a common form of therapy that is prescribed to people with back pain.

Heating pads are a good alternative and can also help reduce back pain.

Back pain is one of the worst, most debilitating pains a person will experience. Walking or even playing with a dog can be difficult if you’re a back-pain sufferer. Knowing the causes of back pain can help you pinpoint the source of the pain and start on the road to relief.

If the pain doesn’t subside, you may want to consult with a doctor.
